A program for physicians focusing on exemplary health care quality improvement efforts in Virginia, the 2007 Medical Educational Symposium featured:

Health Care IT: The Commonwealth’s Perspective
The Honorable Aneesh Chopra -- Secretary of Technology, Commonwealth of Virginia

At the conclusion of this program, the participants will be able to:
1. Identify strategies for utilizing electronic health records and other forms of health information technology to improve the quality of patient care.
2. Describe the Commonwealth’s objectives and interests in the adoption of electronic health records for Virginia’s patients.
3. Identify the roles of the business and health plan communities in the adoption of electronic health records, and discuss opportunities for the physician community to partner with these industries to promote the successful utilization of information technology to improve patient health.
4. Define challenges and corresponding strategies for successful integration across health care IT platforms utilized by the State, businesses, health plans, health systems, and private practices.
5. Discuss the Commonwealth’s perspective on the issue of transparency in health care.
