Access to the Cure:
Navigating Prescription Assistance in Virginia
On May 10, 2005, the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation,
in partnership with the Virginia Pharmacists' Association Foundation,
the Richmond Academy of Medicine, the Virginia Health Care Foundation,
the Free Clinic Medical Directors Council, and the Virginia Department
of Medical Assistance Services presented “Access
to the Cure: Navigating Prescription Assistance in Virginia”
at the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond.
Attended by more than 200 physicians, legislators, and policy leaders, this 90 minute program was designed to inform the group about the need for prescription
assistance programs and the many different, but complex, options that
are presently available to address these needs in Virginia. The speakers ~ which included Marcia Dashevsky of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Deborah Oswalt of the Virginia Health Care Foundation, and Thomas Lynch, PharmD of the VCU/MCV School of Pharmacy and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at EVMS~ provided an overview of the services that are or will be available
via programs such as Medicare Part D, individual company patient assistance
programs and discount card programs, Rx Partnership, and The Pharmacy
Connection. All program attendees also received a ready reference
tool that describes each of the existing programs and provides contact
information and links to additional patient-specific information.
Support
for this program was generously provided by Pfizer, Inc.
