DOC RxRelief helps Virginians without prescription insurance coverage
obtain the medications they need, free-of-charge. The program assists
private practice physicians in navigating pharmaceutical company application
processes for donation of prescribed medications. This program removes
much of the administrative burden of completing Patient Assistance Program
(PAP) applications by streamlining the process for the patient and the
practice. A full-time Patient Advocate specially trained in applying
to pharmaceutical company PAPs and in use of The Pharmacy Connection
(TPC) software directly assists patients with the application process.
This program benefits both patients and private physician practices,
and that the process fits neatly into practice operating procedures.
How does the program work?
Practice staff identify patients that are eligible for the program
and refer these patients to the MSVF Patient Advocate. The Patient Advocate
works with these patients to collect the program application and to
collect income eligibility documentation. The advocate then uses the
TPC software to complete the patient's applications for medications,
and submits this information to the appropriate pharmaceutical companies.
In 4 - 6 weeks, the pharmaceutical company mails the prescription to
the patient or prescribing practice.
Which patients are eligible to participate in the program?

OR is the patient insured by Medicare Part D?
